Community Overview
If you view Cobb County, Georgia, as a circle with Marietta carved out roughly in the middle, you have a kind of visual representation of East Cobb County and West Cobb County. They are, in effect, two halves of the same whole, but they have different personalities. Both are attractive, with high scores for popularity. East Cobb is perhaps better known than West Cobb, as it’s located slightly closer to the city. But West Cobb has a lot going for it, including three new state-of-the-art schools in the past seven years, and a setting that remained more rural well into the 1980s, which also means that its community amenities are newer than those to the east.
Homeowners in West Cobb rely on cars to make the most of everything the area offers. Residents of West Cobb communities are close to Lake Allatoona, the second-largest lake in the Atlanta metro area. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is also a pristine and popular area for hiking and nature-themed recreation. West Cobb is traversed by back roads and country lanes, great for leisure-time pursuits, but they can be heavily traveled as alternative routes to Atlanta. Interstates 75 and 575 lead to the city, but if they are congested, traffic often moves to secondary roads.
Unincorporated West Cobb is a growing, vibrant, popular, close-in area with great schools and easy access to outdoor activities as well as to Marietta and its amenities. Modern theaters, shopping centers, and new restaurants have popped up in recent years. Some of the area's largest firms have headquarters in Cobb County. Incorporated communities within West Cobb include Kennesaw, Acworth, and Powder Springs.
Located adjacent to Fulton County and the city of Atlanta, both sides of Cobb County are considered first-ring suburbs. Although the population of East Cobb tops 200,000, West Cobb is still more rural and less cosmopolitan. Taken as a whole, West Cobb has a population of more than 760,000.
